Rainy Day:
An Expression of Suffering and Hope

The cover of this issue of the Journal features a painting entitled Rainy Day that was created by Goldie Schnitzer in study with Teresa Saia. This piece of art is from the Pain Visual Arts Project (http://www.PainExhibit.com) that is described in the commentary in this issue of the Journal by Mark Collen, the creator and coordinator of the exhibit.

Ms. Schnitzer describes her painting as follows. “This Painting represents a pain day and my struggle to work it out. The white umbrella is faith and hope within the person, knowing tomorrow could be better.”

This expression of hope from the “Hope and Transformation” section of the Pain Exhibit strikes us as a fitting theme for all pain patients as we look forward to the new year of 2006.We are at the midpoint of the Congressionally proclaimed Decade of Pain Research and Control, see: (http://www.ampainsoc.org/decadeofpain). Federal funding for pain research has increased modestly as a result and public media focus on pain issues has increased markedly.

Rainy Day is a 28 inch long by 22 inch wide watercolor painting by Goldie Schnitzer in study with Teresa Saia that was submitted to the Pain Exhibit from San Ramon California.
