Artist Statement An acute pesticide poisoning, that was the injury that took me down thirty years ago while owner of a large plant business and on the verge of a brilliant art career in New York City. My life as I had known it ended immediately in a thick fog of ongoing pain, loss and confusion. That horrible and mysterious episode with near death was just the first of many physical and mental health anomalies leading to this final battle, living with the constraints of today’s diagnosis of terminal incurable metastasized cancer. The truly remarkable thing, while increasingly struggling with the pain and reaching for a sense of completion, is how those old art abilities have now risen to challenge my disabilities and help me so greatly. For instance, Bloodwork serves as a tribute to overcoming my fear of the results when so many times my blood had been sent out to be analyzed at a laboratory. |
